Effect of atomic substitution on the sodium manganese ferrite thermochemical cycle for hydrogen production

This work presents the effect of atomic substitution on MnFe2O4–Na2CO3 thermochemical cycle for H2 production. The non-oxidative decarbonation/carbonation reaction mixture is investigated as starting reference. Repeated cycling results in a 30% loss reversibility due to an overall reduction reactive interfaces. Na2CO3 Li2CO3 decreases decarbonation onset temperature by about 100 °C, but almost no observed during cycles irreversible Li+ intercalation. partial Mn Ca, Ni, and Zn presented. 5% shows best tested production together with MnFe2O4–Na2CO3. reference produces more first (≈1.1 vs. 0.7 mmol/g), its drastically drops two orders magnitude upon becomes negligible after 5 cycles. By contrast, Zn-doped exhibits stable 0.22 mmol/g decreasing trend from 2 5. As result, fifth cycle, 23 times than Thermogravimetry X-ray diffraction confirm that doping significantly improves regeneration reactants.
